Frequently Asked Questions

Most working stylists’ first questions are about sizing and shipping from Tokyo. Here are the answers that come up most often, grouped by topic. If yours isn’t covered, get in touch — we reply within one working day, from the workshop in Ginza.

Ordering

How do I order Mina Scissors?

There are three ways: directly from our Tokyo office, through one of our regional distributors, or from a professional beauty supply retailer in your area. See our how to order page for details on each channel.

What payment methods do you accept?

For direct orders from Tokyo, we accept bank transfer. Regional distributors may accept additional payment methods — ask them directly.

Is there a minimum order?

No, not for individual stylists or small retailers. For wholesale distribution pricing, contact us to discuss quantities.

How much do Mina Scissors cost?

Pricing varies by model, region, and order type. Please contact us for a current quote — we will respond within one working day.

Shipping

Where do you ship from?

All direct orders ship from our headquarters in Ginza, Tokyo via FedEx. See our shipping page for delivery regions and estimated times.

How long does delivery take?

FedEx delivery from Tokyo typically takes 2–5 working days to North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific, plus any customs clearance time in your country. Full details are on our shipping page.

Do I have to pay customs duties?

International customers are responsible for any customs duties, taxes, or import fees charged by the destination country. We declare all shipments accurately as commercial goods.

Do you ship worldwide?

We regularly ship to North America, Europe, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and most of Asia. For other regions, contact us first and we can usually arrange shipping on request.

Products

Which model should I choose?

It depends on your experience level, cutting style, and hand size. Our sizing and selection guide walks through how to choose, and if you are still unsure, contact us — we will recommend a model for your situation.

What sizes are available?

Sizes range from 5.0” to 7.0” depending on the model. The Mina Umi is available in the widest range (5.0” through 7.0” in half-inch increments). Most other models are available in 5.0”, 5.5”, and 6.0”.

What's the difference between your Professional and Entry ranges?

The Professional Range (Sakura, Umi, Timeless) is built for working stylists who cut every day. The Entry Range (Matte Black, Black Diamond, Jay, Barber) is designed for students, apprentices, and stylists building their kit at a more accessible price. Both ranges are built as real professional shears — the difference is in the features and finish, not in whether they can cut hair well.

Are your shears left-handed?

Our standard shears are right-handed. For left-handed scissors, contact us — we can advise on current availability.

Sharpening & Maintenance

Do you offer sharpening for scissors bought elsewhere?

Our sharpening service is for Mina Scissors. Contact us to discuss other cases — we will let you know what we can do.

How often should my scissors be sharpened?

Most working stylists send their main shears in every 6–12 months. Students and home users may go longer. You will know they need sharpening when hair is being pushed rather than cut, or when the edge feels rough. Full details on our sharpening page.

How much does sharpening cost?

Sharpening cost depends on the type of service and your region. Please contact us for a quote before sending your scissors.

How long does the sharpening service take?

Most pairs turn around within ten working days from receipt at our Tokyo workshop, plus return shipping time.

Returns & Warranty

What's your return policy?

We offer a 30-day satisfaction guarantee on direct orders. See our shipping and returns page for the full policy, and our terms of service for the legal details.

What does the warranty cover?

All Mina Scissors carry a manufacturer’s warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. It does not cover damage from misuse, accidents, or poor maintenance. For warranty enquiries, contact us with details of the issue.

What if my order arrives damaged?

Photograph the damage before unpacking further and contact us immediately. We will work with FedEx to resolve the issue.
